Shankar’s ₹75 Crore Splurge on Songs for Game Changer
When it comes to opulence in Indian cinema, a few names stand out — Yash Chopra’s picturesque Switzerland, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand sets, and Karan Johar’s lavish wardrobes. But one filmmaker from the south, Shankar, takes extravagance to an entirely different level.
For his upcoming film Game Changer, Shankar reportedly spent a jaw-dropping ₹75 crore on just five songs! The film’s producer, Dil Raju, confirmed this massive expenditure during the trailer launch in Mumbai, saying, “Each song took 10-12 days to shoot, with grand sets and hundreds of background dancers.”
Shankar’s History of Big-Budget Songs
This isn’t the first time Shankar has made headlines for his lavish song productions. The filmmaker, known for his flair for grandeur, has previously set records with his expensive songs.
In his sci-fi blockbuster 2.0, Shankar spent ₹20 crore on the song Yanthara Lokapu Sundarive, making it one of the most expensive songs in Indian cinema history.
But Shankar’s love for extravagance dates back even further.
The Iconic Jeans Song Filmed in Seven Countries
Back in the 90s, when Shankar was still a newcomer, he made waves with his second film Jeans, starring Aishwarya Rai and Abbas. The film included the path-breaking song Ajooba, which was filmed at the seven wonders of the world across seven different countries.
At the time, the song cost ₹2 crore to make — a record-breaking budget back then. Shankar took the lead actors, backup dancers, and an entire crew on a globe-trotting journey to shoot this iconic track.
About Game Changer
Shankar’s latest project, Game Changer, marks his debut in Telugu cinema. The political thriller stars Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and SJ Suryah.
With a reported budget of ₹500 crore, Game Changer is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. It’s set to release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada on January 10.
Shankar’s obsession with grandeur seems to have no limits. And with Game Changer, he’s once again proving why he’s the undisputed king of extravagance in Indian cinema.
Fun Fact: The lavish spending on songs in Game Changer may just break Shankar’s own record for the most expensive song in Indian cinema!
