Supreme Court Criticizes AIMIM Candidate Tahir Hussain
With only days left for the Delhi Assembly elections, political parties are actively campaigning. AIMIM has fielded candidates in Muslim-majority areas, including Tahir Hussain for the Mustafabad seat. Hussain, accused in the Delhi riots case, filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court to campaign.
Supreme Court’s Strong Remarks
On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected Hussain’s interim bail plea and made scathing remarks. Justice Pankaj Mittal stated that individuals facing serious allegations should not be allowed to contest elections. He added that winning elections while in prison is easier but such candidates should be disqualified.
High Court Also Denied Bail
Earlier, the Delhi High Court denied Hussain’s plea for interim bail. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna cited the severity of the allegations, stating they cannot be overlooked. Hussain had requested bail from January 14 to February 9 for campaigning purposes.
Allegations Against Hussain
Hussain faces accusations of involvement in the Delhi riots, which raises significant concerns about his candidacy. Despite this, he has filed his nomination for the Mustafabad constituency under AIMIM.
As the elections draw near, the court’s remarks underscore the need for stricter scrutiny of candidates facing serious charges.
