Amma’s Pink Bus Brings Breast Cancer Screening to Maha Kumbh The Math of Kerala, under spiritual leader Maa Amritanandamayi, introduced a pink bus to help detect breast cancer in women. The bus, equipped with mammography facilities, is serving women at the Maha Kumbh. Sant Brahmarishi Eknath, associated with the Math, shared details about the initiative. He explained that the bus, built at a cost of ₹4 crore, has all the equipment needed for breast cancer screening. Women above 40 are more prone to breast cancer, he added, but early detection can significantly lower treatment costs. Addressing Barriers to Early Detection Eknath emphasized that many women hesitate to undergo breast cancer screening. To address this, Amma introduced the pink bus at the Maha Kumbh, marking its first deployment at the fair. The bus was initially inaugurated in Faridabad in 2022. Mobile Mini Hospital in Service In addition to the pink bus, the Math has launched a mobile mini hospital. This hospital-on-wheels includes an X-ray unit, a pathology lab, minor surgical facilities, and treatment options. With ISRO’s satellite support, it connects to Maa Amritanandamayi Hospital in Faridabad, allowing specialists to guide the onsite team remotely. Support Staff and Services The initiative also includes 50 paramedical staff from Faridabad and Cochin, who are providing care at the camp and the hospital set up at the fair.
