Junior Doctor Attacked by Patient’s Attendants at Hedgewar Hospital Incident Raises Concerns for Healthcare Worker Safety A junior doctor at Hedgewar Hospital in Karkardooma, Delhi, was attacked by a patient's attendants on Sunday. The patient, involved in a fight outside, sought emergency care for his injuries. Dr. Mohd Nadeem, a senior resident, stated that the patient arrived around noon for treatment. The patient, under the influence of alcohol, became uncooperative during the treatment. Situation Escalates in the Emergency Room The junior doctor attempted to calm the patient, who then became abusive and agitated. The patient's attendants, waiting outside, entered the room and attacked the doctor. They also assaulted the dresser who was present in the room. The duty casualty medical officer (CMO) was notified immediately after the incident. A violence against doctor form was completed. "We reported the incident and requested an institutional FIR," Dr. Nadeem confirmed. Legal Action and Response A case has been registered under relevant sections, including voluntarily causing hurt and obstructing a public servant. The case also falls under the Delhi Medical Services Personnel and Medicare Services Institutions Act. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently mandated government hospitals to file an institutional FIR within six hours of any violence. This attack highlights the ongoing concerns about healthcare worker safety.
