Due to the non-payment of Mahila Panchayat staff salaries for the past 10 months, more than 50 NGOs in Delhi, including Social Pride Welfare Society, are experiencing severe financial strain. These organizations, which work in collaboration with the Delhi Commission for Women, employ over 200 women. Many of these women, who have been supporting others in need, are now left struggling themselves. Dr. Kamal Ahmed, President of Social Pride Welfare Society, expressed grave concern over the situation. "The women working with us are finding it difficult to manage their household expenses. Some have been forced to leave their jobs due to the financial burden. Many are even struggling to afford basic necessities like food," he said. The unpaid salaries have created a widespread crisis among the NGOs, which rely heavily on the contributions of their staff. Women employees, who have stood for the rights of others, are now left without the pay they have worked hard for. Dr. Kamal emphasized the mental and emotional toll on the staff, warning that if the issue continues, it could lead to severe consequences. "If any of the workers take drastic steps out of depression, the responsibility will lie with the Delhi Commission for Women and those who are withholding their salaries," he added. He called upon Delhi's Chief Minister Atishi and Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena to take immediate action and ensure the release of the overdue salaries to prevent further distress among the workers.
