Locals estimated candidates spent between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh each on event preparations, hoping to impress senior Congress leaders. An e-rickshaw driver quipped, “It feels like election day with all these posters.” Fierce competition even led to rival posters being torn down. One resident speculated the total spending exceeded ₹50 lakh, though exact figures remain unclear. Motivations Questioned Despite the high number of contenders, some locals question their motives. A resident remarked, “Many join politics for money, not to empower the community or improve the area.” One ticket hopeful added, “Unlike other areas where finding candidates is a challenge, Okhla sees a rush for Congress tickets due to perceived opportunities.” Congress Senses Opportunity Many believe Congress has the upper hand this time, with growing anti-incumbency against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan.
