Under its Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, Punjab Police intensified its crackdown on drug networks. On Tuesday, the police demolished illegal structures used by smugglers in Sunam (Sangrur district) and Kalran Mohalla (Nawanshahr). First Demolition in Sangrur Under CM Mann’s Anti-Drug Drive In Sunam, authorities demolished the property of notorious drug dealer Budh Singh Budha on Stadium Road. This marks the first such demolition in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s home district. On February 28, Mann set a 90-day deadline to eliminate Punjab’s drug problem. Since then, over 20 demolitions have taken place across different districts. The police took action after receiving complaints about drug trafficking and other illegal activities at the site. The land belonged to the local market committee. Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal confirmed that the property was being used as a hub for drug sales and other crimes. He assured that the administration would continue taking strict action against those involved in the drug trade. Nawanshahr Sees Similar Crackdown In Nawanshahr, police demolished unauthorized structures in Kalran Mohalla. The illegal structures had been occupied by three families involved in drug trade. Senior Superintendent of Police Mehtab Singh stated that the Nagar Council had requested police assistance to remove these encroachments. The police took legal action against Beero, Shindo, and Santosh, who have multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Budh Singh Budha’s Criminal Record Budha has a long history of drug-related crimes. Since 2010, he has faced six cases under the NDPS Act and another under the Excise Act. Punjab Police’s intensified operations signal a zero-tolerance approach toward drug networks.
