Dhankhar Slams Misguided Reactions to Sanatan, Hindu References VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, speaking at the International Congress of Vedanta at JNU, voiced concern over how references to Sanatan and Hindu evoke baffling reactions in India. He described this trend as both ironic and painful. “Rather than understanding the depth and meaning of these words, people react without thought. Such individuals are misguided souls driven by a dangerous ecosystem,” he remarked. Dhankhar warned that this mindset threatens society by undermining India’s spiritual and intellectual heritage. He criticized those dismissing Vedanta and Sanatani texts as regressive, blaming their views on colonial mindsets and a flawed understanding of India's cultural roots. “These elements camouflage their destructive thoughts behind distorted versions of secularism, which is dangerous,” he added. Global Acceptance of Vedanta vs. Domestic Rejection Dhankhar highlighted the irony that while Vedanta philosophy is gaining global recognition, some in India reject it. He emphasized that this dismissal disturbs social harmony and weakens democratic values, leading to societal failure. Call for Dialogue in Democracy The Vice President also addressed disruptions in Parliament, stressing the importance of dialogue and expression in a democracy. “Expression is a divine gift, but without dialogue, it loses its impact. Unfortunately, disruptions in Parliament have killed dialogue and debate,” he said. Dhankhar expressed concern over the state of India's democratic institutions, stating that disturbances in the "temples of democracy" undermine their sanctity and hinder productivity.
