Bangle seller Tasleem Ali finally breathed a sigh of relief. The court in Madhya Pradesh acquitted him of all charges, including molesting a minor girl in Indore. The incident, dating back to August 2021, had left him jailed for nearly four months and scarred by public humiliation.
Assault and Accusations
On August 22, 2021, a mob attacked Tasleem Ali in Indore’s Banganga area. Videos of the incident showed people thrashing him after questioning his identity. Shortly after, allegations of molestation surfaced. A minor claimed Tasleem had held her hand, touched her cheeks, and made inappropriate comments while selling bangles.
The police charged him under multiple sections, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They also alleged he used fraudulent identity documents.
The Court’s Verdict
Three years later, the case took a turn. The minor and her parents denied knowing Tasleem or the incident. The court found no evidence to support the molestation charges or claims of fraudulent identity. Judge Rashmi Walter acquitted him, stating the prosecution failed to establish intent or misconduct.
A Bitter Experience
Tasleem’s lawyer, Aslim Ali, revealed that the case stemmed from a vendetta. “After the mob attack, Tasleem filed a complaint. In retaliation, they accused him of molestation,” he explained. Investigations revealed discrepancies in identity documents were due to clerical errors.
A New Beginning
Tasleem and his family have since moved to Maharashtra’s Akola. They now run a small shop, abandoning door-to-door bangle sales. His brother Irfan Ali shared, “We earn less now, but we live with dignity. The experience taught us to prioritize respect over money.”
Tasleem’s ordeal underscores the importance of justice and highlights the vulnerabilities faced by marginalized communities
