Indian politician Tejashwi Yadav recently took to social media to share his cricketing journey, surprising many. Son of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and a prominent RJD leader, Tejashwi claimed that Indian cricket star Virat Kohli once played under his captaincy during domestic matches. Despite his contributions to the game, Tejashwi expressed frustration that his cricketing career has largely been forgotten.
Tejashwi’s Statement
In an interview with Zee Media, Tejashwi revealed his disappointment over the lack of recognition for his time in cricket. “I was a cricketer, and no one talks about it. Virat Kohli played under my captaincy—has anyone ever mentioned it? I played good cricket professionally. Many Team India players were my batchmates,” he said. Tejashwi added that he had to quit the sport due to severe ligament injuries.
His comments quickly went viral, sparking a wave of reactions from cricket fans across social media.
Tejashwi Yadav’s Cricket Career
Tejashwi played 1 First Class match, 2 List A games, and 4 T20 matches during his domestic cricket career. He represented Jharkhand, making his First Class debut against Vidarbha in November 2009. His two List A matches were against Tripura and Orissa in 2010, and his four T20 appearances took place in Dhanbad.
IPL Stint
Few know that Tejashwi was also contracted by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Though he stayed with the franchise until 2012, he never played a game for the team.
