TMC Worker Killed in Malda Shooting Incident
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was shot dead, and two others were injured in a violent attack on Tuesday in Malda, West Bengal. The incident occurred on a newly constructed road in the district.
The deceased was identified as Hasa Sheikh, a local TMC member. Bakul Sheikh, the regional TMC president, was among the injured. Eyewitnesses described the attack as brutal and chaotic.
Police Suspect Internal Rivalry
Authorities believe the attack may be linked to internal rivalries within the party. However, the identities of the attackers remain unclear. The police have launched an investigation to uncover the motive behind the shooting.
This isn’t the first instance of political violence in Malda. On January 4, another TMC leader, Dulal Sarkar, was shot dead. Sarkar served as a councillor for the party.
Arrests in Sarkar Murder Case
Following Sarkar’s murder, police arrested seven people, including Narendra Nath Tiwari, the TMC’s Malda town unit president. Investigators suspect a long-standing feud between Tiwari and Sarkar led to the assassination.
Despite increased security efforts, Malda continues to witness political violence. The community remains on edge as these incidents raise questions about safety and stability.
Mamata Banerjee’s Condolence Message
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the recent deaths. She posted a condolence message on X, saying, “My close associate, Babla Sarkar, was murdered today. He worked tirelessly for the party from its early days.”
The series of violent incidents has sparked calls for stricter measures to curb political violence. Residents are demanding swift justice and action to restore peace in the district.
