Vidya Balan Opens Up on Weight Loss Journey Without Exercise
Vidya Balan recently discussed her remarkable weight loss transformation, attributing it entirely to dietary changes. In an interview with Galatta India, she explained how she managed to lose weight without any physical exercise, breaking common misconceptions about fitness.
A Lifetime of Struggles
Vidya shared that weight has been a lifelong challenge. She explained, “All my life, I’ve struggled with trying to be thin. I’ve dieted, exercised intensely, and even when I lost weight, it would come back. Early this year, I consulted a nutritional group called Amura Health in Chennai. They told me, ‘It’s inflammation, not fat.’ They set me on an anti-inflammatory diet, and it worked beautifully.”
Finding the Right Foods
Vidya discovered that not all vegetables suit every body type. “I’ve always been a vegetarian, but I didn’t know that palak (spinach) and doodhi (bottle gourd) didn’t work for me. We assume all vegetables are good, but each body is different. What’s beneficial for one person may not be for another.”
Letting Go of Exercise
One surprising aspect of her journey was giving up exercise entirely. “They [Amura Health] advised me to stop working out. People keep saying, ‘You’re looking slimmer than ever,’ and I haven’t exercised all year,” she noted. She explained how societal pressures and insecurities previously pushed her toward excessive exercise. “In the past, I was a beast in the gym, feeling like I had to prove something.”
Overcoming Societal Judgments
Vidya also discussed the intense body-shaming she’s faced. “Judgment around body size is harsh. People would say, ‘You must not work out at all,’ and now they’re like, ‘What’s your secret?’ My answer is simple—I don’t do anything. I’m enjoying life and feel healthier than ever.”
Embracing Self-Acceptance
Vidya has learned to accept her body and reject negative labels. “I didn’t want to be seen as the ‘fat woman’ or the ‘big woman.’ Society often uses the word ‘fat’ as a derogatory term, but I see it as simply describing body size. The stigma around it needs to end.”
A Personalized Approach to Health
Vidya’s journey highlights the importance of understanding one’s own body. She believes in finding a health approach tailored to individual needs, noting that what works for one person may not suit another.
Her story is a powerful reminder of self-acceptance and the impact of a personalized health journey.
