Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Umar Nazir Mir delivered a sensational spell in the Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai on Thursday. The experienced pacer dismissed Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube, showcasing his skill with pace and bounce.
Mir struck early, sending Rohit Sharma back for just 3 with a short-pitched delivery. He then clean bowled Ajinkya Rahane for 12, breaking the Mumbai captain’s resistance. Shivam Dube was dismissed for a duck after Kanhaiya Wadhawan took a sharp catch.
Umar Nazir Mir, 31, has been a key player for Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket. Since his debut in 2013, he has taken 138 wickets in 57 first-class matches. In List A games, he has 54 wickets, while in T20s, he has scalped 32 wickets.
Standing tall at 6-foot-4, the Pulwama-born pacer was also part of India C’s squad in the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.
Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled on a fresh pitch at the BKC Ground. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened for Mumbai for the first time but failed to deliver. Jaiswal fell for 4, trapped LBW by J&K pacer Auqib Nabi, who utilized the new ball expertly.
Rohit’s dismissal was particularly disappointing. Attempting to flick a delivery, he got a leading edge caught by J&K skipper Paras Dogra at mid-off. Interestingly, Dogra wore a No. 9 jersey, usually worn by Yudhvir Singh, creating brief confusion.
The low turnout at the stadium reflected the disappointing performances, with office workers in nearby buildings returning to work after Rohit’s early dismissal. Mir, however, stood out with his fiery spell, leaving Mumbai in trouble.
