Bajaj Finance Manager Ends Life After Work Pressure
A 42-year-old man, Tarun Saxena, working as an area manager at Bajaj Finance in Jhansi, tragically took his life. His suicide note claims he faced extreme pressure from his seniors to meet targets, threatening salary cuts if he failed. Bajaj Finance has yet to comment on the allegations.
Family Locked in Another Room
Tarun’s house help discovered his body this morning. Before taking the drastic step, he locked his wife and two children in another room. He is survived by his parents, wife Megha, and children Yatharth and Pihu.
Five-Page Suicide Note Reveals Stress
In his five-page letter, Tarun expressed that despite his best efforts, he could not meet his EMI recovery targets for Bajaj Finance loans. He faced humiliation and feared losing his job. His words painted a picture of immense stress and mental exhaustion. He wrote, “I am very tense about the future. I have lost my ability to think.”
Colleagues Forced to Pay for Unmet Targets
Tarun also revealed in his note that employees were made to pay for the EMIs they couldn’t recover. Despite raising concerns with his seniors, they ignored his pleas for help. “I have not slept for 45 days. Senior managers are pressuring me to meet targets or quit,” he wrote.
Final Apologies to His Family
In his letter, Tarun mentioned paying his children’s school fees until the end of the year. He apologized to his family and urged them to take care of his wife and children. He asked his parents to build a second floor for his family’s comfort. Tarun’s note named his seniors, asking his family to file a police complaint, blaming them for his decision.
Cousin’s Statement
Tarun’s cousin, Gaurav Saxena, stated that his seniors had increased the pressure during a video conference at 6 am on the day of his death. They allegedly questioned his ability to work and suggested he should be sacked.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior police officer Vinod Kumar Gautam confirmed they are awaiting the post-mortem results. “The suicide note indicates pressure from his seniors. We will act upon any complaints from the family,” Gautam said.
The National Debate on Toxic Work Culture
Tarun Saxena’s death has surfaced at a time when discussions around toxic work environments are intensifying across India. The recent death of 26-year-old chartered accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil has also sparked outrage. Anna’s mother, Anita Augustine, wrote a heartfelt letter to Ernst & Young India chairman Rajiv Memani, condemning the overwork culture at the company.
EY Chairman’s Response
Rajiv Memani expressed his sorrow over Anna’s death, sharing that the well-being of employees is his top priority. The Union Labour Ministry has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her passing.
