Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: Pradeep Dhaliya, hailing from the Ghaziabad district, has been tirelessly working to protect the environment, earning him the title of “Green Man of UP.” His journey towards environmental stewardship began in childhood, when he received a plant as a gift from his school, which he still cherishes today.
A multi-disciplinary scholar, Pradeep completed his high school in 2005, intermediate studies in 2007, and later pursued degrees in biology, history, education, and a diploma in the mechanical branch. His father, a car mechanic, inspired Pradeep’s early experiences in understanding the environment. During his visits to his father’s workshop, Pradeep realized that the toxic gases emitted by petrol and diesel vehicles were harmful to health and the environment. This realization sparked his mission to reduce pollution through tree planting.
Since 2014, Pradeep has led numerous campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of planting trees. He has planted over 400,000 trees across the state, inspiring communities to contribute to a greener future. In 2017, he founded a “Tree Bank” with branches in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. The Tree Bank provides free plants to anyone willing to plant them, only requiring recipients to send the GPS location of where the plant will be placed. In just one year, Pradeep distributed around 40,000 plants.
Using his personal savings, Pradeep has beautified road dividers and parks, and planted trees around 10 ponds in Gautam Buddha Nagar. He focuses on planting long-living species like Peepal, Banyan, Jamun, Mango, and Guava. One of his most notable efforts was the transformation of a barren area near Sunpura Temple in Sunpura village, where he planted 5,000 trees, creating a forest.
Pradeep has also campaigned for a plastic-free India. In 2014, he embarked on a journey from Haridwar to raise awareness about plastic pollution. Recently, he collaborated with the Petroleum Ministry in Delhi to plant trees, continuing his commitment to creating a healthier environment for future generations.
Pradeep Dhaliya’s selfless work serves as a reminder of the difference one person can make in combating environmental challenges, and his efforts are an inspiration for all.
