
The Telangana Assembly on Monday passed a unanimous resolution recommending Bharat Ratna, for Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. CM Revanth Reddy moved the resolution, highlighting Dr. Manmohan Singh extraordinary contributions to the nation and in creation of Telangana.
The Assembly expressed deep condolences to Dr. Singh’s family, recognizing him as a globally respected economist and statesman. Members acknowledged his pivotal roles as RBI Governor, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister, during which he introduced transformative reforms in liberalization and social welfare.
Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister saw the implementation of groundbreaking initiatives like MGNREGA, Aadhaar, and the Right to Information Act. In 2014, his leadership was instrumental in passing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, fulfilling Telangana’s decades-long dream of statehood.
The Assembly also approved installing a statue of Dr. Singh in Hyderabad’s Financial District, honoring his contributions. CM Reddy emphasized that this gesture would inspire future generations. He also mentioned that this will allow citizens to pay tribute on his birth and death anniversaries.
Opposition leaders, including K.T. Rama Rao of the BRS, supported the Bharat Ratna recommendation. Rao praised Dr. Singh’s humility, visionary leadership, and loyalty to the Congress party, calling him a leader of “simple living and high thinking.”
Members from Congress, BRS, BJP, AIMIM, and CPI joined in honoring Dr. Singh, underscoring his indelible mark on the nation. His demise, they agreed, is a great loss, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations.
