Political Equations Could Shift: Fadnavis Opens the Door for Uddhav Thackeray
With the crucial Mumbai municipal elections approaching, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has hinted at a possible thaw in relations with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. During an interview on Friday, Fadnavis made a striking comment — “Uddhav Thackeray is not an enemy” — sparking discussions about shifting alliances in Maharashtra politics.
“Nothing is certain in politics,” Fadnavis said, while noting that political relationships evolve. “Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray was a friend. Then Raj Thackeray became a friend. While Raj Thackeray remains a friend, Uddhav is not an enemy,” he stated.
This remark comes after Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray greeted Fadnavis during the winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly. Reports suggest that Aaditya has also met Fadnavis to discuss public issues, adding fuel to rumors of a reconciliation between the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT).
Balanced Response on Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar
In the hour-long interview, Fadnavis addressed several political topics, including his relationships with key political figures like Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. When asked whom he trusts more, Fadnavis offered a diplomatic answer.
“I have a very exclusive relationship with both of them. Shinde Saheb is a long-time friend, and Ajit Dada’s political maturity aligns well with my wavelength,” he explained.
Fadnavis emphasized that his focus remains on strengthening the party’s position in Maharashtra, adding that he is a disciplined BJP worker ready to take on any role assigned by the party leadership.
Praise for Modi and Shah’s Leadership
Commenting on leadership within the BJP, Fadnavis praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discipline and resilience. He said, “Modi Ji’s discipline is extraordinary. I can’t even claim to have 10 percent of it.”
He also spoke highly of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, highlighting his ability to make decisive political judgments. “Amit Shah’s sharp political instincts are unmatched,” Fadnavis added.
What’s Next for BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT)?
Fadnavis’s comments have triggered speculation about a possible rapprochement between the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT), especially as the local self-government elections, including the Mumbai municipal polls, draw closer.
Political observers believe that changing dynamics could lead to a renewed partnership, which might alter the power balance in Maharashtra.
As alliances continue to evolve, one thing is certain — Maharashtra’s political scene is anything but predictable. All eyes are now on whether the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) will find common ground once again.
