The Tamil Nadu BJP demanded an apology from Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin. Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettai Kazhagam (TVK) accused the DMK government of deceiving the public on NEET.
The controversy erupted after CM MK Stalin addressed the Assembly. He stated that NEET would be scrapped if the INDI alliance won the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He emphasized that only the Central government could abolish the exam.
BJP state secretary SG Suryah accused Udhayanidhi of misleading voters in 2021. He said the DMK falsely promised to end NEET, though it was a Supreme Court directive. He stressed the central government had no authority over its implementation.
A day earlier, Vijay criticized the DMK on social media. He said the party broke its election promise and knew only the Centre could abolish NEET. Vijay called it a critical political and social issue for Tamil Nadu.
CM Stalin also pointed out that NEET didn’t exist during the tenures of Karunanidhi or J Jayalalithaa. He claimed the exam was introduced under Edappadi K Palaniswami’s government. Stalin further accused the opposition leader of staying silent for nearly a year after NEET’s introduction.
The NEET debate continues to fuel political tensions in Tamil Nadu.
