Rahul Gandhi Meets Congress Workers, Calls for 2027 Poll Preparations

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged party workers to strengthen the organisation and start preparing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. During his two-day visit to Rae Bareli, he met workers at his Bhuemau residence, where they raised concerns, particularly about Dalit rights.

A 12-member delegation from the Scheduled Caste community discussed challenges under the BJP government. Sunil Kumar Gautam, president of the Congress Scheduled Caste wing in Rae Bareli, highlighted that sanitation workers from the Valmiki community are still forced to work without protective gear, violating Supreme Court directives.

Gandhi assured the workers of his support and stressed the need for a strong party organisation to address these issues. Sarvottam Kumar Mishra, Congress’s Rae Bareli committee vice-president, praised Gandhi’s honesty and vision and said he actively listened to concerns and solutions.

Tributes and Youth Interaction

On the second day of his visit, Gandhi paid tribute to Veera Pasi, a leader of the 1857 revolution, and B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, by garlanding their statues in Narpatganj.

In Lalganj, he participated in a ‘Yuva Samvad’, where he interacted with youth and criticized the government over rising unemployment. Later, he visited the Modern Rail Coach Factory (MRCF) and stressed that the railways are India’s lifeline. He urged the government to prioritise passenger safety and comfort.

At MRCF, Gandhi discussed coach manufacturing with General Manager Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior officials. RN Tiwari, Chief Public Relations Officer, explained the production process for different types of railway coaches, including Tejas, Rajdhani, and Vande Bharat. This year, the focus remains on general and sleeper coaches, making up 90% of total output.

Gandhi acknowledged the railway sector’s transformation and inquired about indigenous technology, domestic production, and worker roles. He appreciated MRCF’s contribution to manufacturing rather than just trading.

Political Controversy During Visit

Meanwhile, some areas in Rae Bareli witnessed protests against Gandhi and the Congress party. Posters accused him of insulting BSP chief Mayawati and the Dalit community. The Bahujan Swabhiman Manch put up posters referencing a statement by Congress leader Udit Raj against Mayawati.

The posters read: “Rahul Gandhi, your double standards are clear. You pose as a benefactor of Dalits while your party leaders threaten a Dalit icon like Mayawati.” The message demanded an apology, warning of consequences if ignored.

After completing his engagements, Gandhi departed for Delhi via Lucknow, concluding his visit
