Mayawati Sacks Nephew Again, SP and Congress Mock Decision
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has once again removed her nephew and political heir, Akash Anand, from all party posts. The move has sparked fresh criticism from opposition parties, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) questioning why she is not promoting the next generation.
Samajwadi Party’s Jibe
SP spokesperson Ashutosh Verma mocked the BSP’s leadership decisions, saying, “Akash Anand was made national coordinator, then removed mid-election for being immature, reinstated after the polls, and now sacked again.” He added that such frequent changes raise questions about Mayawati’s leadership and her intent to bring new faces forward.
State Congress chief Ajay Rai also took a swipe at Mayawati, saying, “She is stuck in family issues… her entire family is in turmoil.”
Factionalism Behind the Sacking?
This marks the second time in a year that Mayawati has dismissed Akash Anand. She cited factionalism as the reason, blaming his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth for dividing the party. Siddharth was expelled earlier for allegedly weakening the BSP across India, including Uttar Pradesh.
Back-and-Forth on Akash Anand
In May 2024, Mayawati removed Akash Anand from key positions, calling him “immature.” However, a month later, she reinstated him as BSP’s National Coordinator, signaling that he was still her political heir.
With his removal yet again, questions arise about BSP’s future leadership and internal stability.
