Agra Teen Chooses Spiritual Path Over IAS Dream
A teenage girl from Agra, who once aspired to become an IAS officer, has now chosen a life of renunciation. After experiencing a deep spiritual awakening at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, the girl expressed her desire to become a sadhvi (nun). Her family has wholeheartedly supported her decision, believing it to be God’s will.
How It Began: A Family’s Journey to Mahakumbh
The girl, now known as Gauri Giri, has been staying with her family at the Juna Akhara camp at Mahakumbh since last month. Her family was invited by Mahant Kaushal Giri Maharaj, a respected seer from Juna Akhara, who has been visiting their village for the past three years to conduct Bhagwat Katha sessions.
During one of these sessions, the girl, Rakhi, took her guru diksha (spiritual initiation). Her mother, Reema, shared how this journey unfolded.
“One day, Rakhi told us she wanted to become a sadhvi. We took it as God’s wish and raised no objections,” Reema said.
From IAS Aspirant to Gauri Giri
The family had rented a house in Prayagraj to ensure better education for their daughters, Rakhi and her younger sister Nikki.
Rakhi once dreamed of joining the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), but her experiences at the Mahakumbh changed her perspective. According to her family, she felt detachment from worldly life and expressed her desire to join the spiritual path.
Mahant Kaushal Giri Confirms the Family’s Willing Decision
Mahant Kaushal Giri Maharaj confirmed that the family had willingly donated their daughter to the ashram. He emphasized that there was no coercion involved.
“The family has been connected to us for a while. They requested that we accept Rakhi into the ashram, and she was accepted. The decision was made with complete willingness,” the Mahant said.
He also revealed that Rakhi would now be known as Gauri Giri.
Rituals to Mark Her New Spiritual Life
A saint from the Juna Akhara explained that pind daan (a ritual offering symbolizing renunciation) and other religious ceremonies will be conducted on January 19. Once these rituals are complete, Gauri Giri will be formally recognized as part of the Guru’s family.
A Mother’s Love and Society’s Questions
When asked if she worries about her daughter, Reema gave an emotional response.
“As a mother, I will always worry about my daughter’s well-being. Relatives often question us, asking why we let her go. But we believe this was God’s wish.”
The family, though emotional, remains proud and supportive of Rakhi’s choice to walk the path of spirituality.
As the Mahakumbh continues to inspire spiritual transformations, the story of Gauri Giri is a reminder of how faith and destiny shape life choices.
