Asha-tai Pawar Seeks Reconciliation at Pandharpur
Asha-tai Pawar, mother of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, visited the Vitthal and Rukmini temple in Pandharpur on Wednesday. She prayed for her son Ajit and his uncle Sharad Pawar to reconcile.
Speaking to reporters, Asha-tai shared her heartfelt wish. “I prayed for the grievances within the Pawar family to end and for Ajit and Sharad Pawar to reunite. I trust Lord Vitthal will answer my prayers,” she said.
Political Rift and Recent Developments
The Pawar family split politically in July 2023 when Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government after decades of working with his uncle Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar later gained control of the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) electoral symbol and outperformed the Sharad Pawar-led faction in the Maharashtra assembly elections.
Despite the political divide, efforts to mend family ties have sparked hope among party workers.
Leaders React to Asha-tai’s Remarks
Praful Patel, senior leader of Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, expressed optimism. “Sharad Pawar is like a father to us. A reunion would bring happiness without disrespecting anyone,” he said. Patel also highlighted their continued respect for Sharad Pawar, despite differing political stances.
Maharashtra minister Narhari Zirwal echoed similar sentiments. “The split has been distressing for us. A reunion would strengthen the party and benefit workers,” he said.
The possibility of reconciliation remains uncertain, but Asha-tai’s prayers have reignited hope for unity within the Pawar family.
