Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Marks Her Entry into Indian Parliament
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to take her oath as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, November 28. Alongside her, Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan will also be sworn in. This occasion not only marks Priyanka’s debut in Parliament but also signifies a historic moment as all three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family—Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi—are now part of India’s Parliament for the first time in decades.
A Decisive Win in Wayanad
Priyanka contested the Wayanad seat during the bypolls, held alongside assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. She emerged victorious with 6,22,338 votes, defeating BJP’s Navya Haridas and CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri. Her margin of victory, 4,10,931 votes, exceeded the lead her brother Rahul Gandhi achieved in the April 2024 general elections. Despite a lower voter turnout, her win demonstrated significant public support in the Congress stronghold of Wayanad.
Rahul Gandhi had vacated the Wayanad seat after winning both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He chose to retain Rae Bareli, necessitating the bypoll. Priyanka’s victory in Wayanad strengthens Congress’s foothold in the region.
A Historic Family Presence in Parliament
With Priyanka’s entry into the Lok Sabha, the Gandhi family is now fully represented in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, while Sonia Gandhi represents Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha. This marks a significant chapter in Indian political history, showcasing the enduring influence of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy.
Congress’s Win in Nanded
Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan also won the Nanded Lok Sabha bypoll with 5,86,788 votes. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of sitting MP Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan.

After her win, Priyanka thanked the voters of Wayanad, promising to be their voice in Parliament. Her victory not only marks a strong debut but also reflects Congress’s strategic efforts to strengthen its leadership.
