Atishi Becomes Delhi’s First Woman Leader of Opposition
AAP leader Atishi has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, marking a historic first for the capital. For the first time ever, Delhi will witness a woman Leader of Opposition challenging a woman Chief Minister in the assembly.
Atishi was selected for the role during AAP’s legislative meeting, where MLA Sanjeev Jha proposed her name. Expressing gratitude, she said:
“Thanks to Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and the Legislative Party for trusting me. A strong Opposition raises the voice of the people. The Aam Aadmi Party will fulfill all the promises made by BJP.”
Delhi Assembly Session to Begin Monday
The first session of the Delhi Assembly is set to begin on Monday, spanning three days. The BJP-led government has announced plans to table pending CAG reports on the performance of the previous AAP government.
The BJP swept the February 5 elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP secured 22 and Congress failed to win any.
Despite AAP’s electoral setback, Atishi retained her Kalkaji seat against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. However, several top AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, lost their seats.
With Atishi leading the Opposition, Delhi’s political landscape is set for a high-stakes battle in the assembly.
