AAP-Led MCD to Make 12,000 Contractual Workers Permanent
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to regularize 12,000 contractual workers in its House meeting on February 25, AAP leader Atishi announced.
Speaking at a press conference alongside MCD Mayor Mahesh Khinchi, Deputy Mayor Ravinder Bharadwaj, and Leader of the House Mukesh Goel, Atishi emphasized AAP’s commitment to ensuring job security for municipal workers.
- In the last two years, AAP has already made 4,500 contractual workers permanent.
- This latest move will benefit sanitation workers, engineers, gardeners, and other municipal staff.
AAP’s Commitment to Workers’ Rights
Atishi highlighted AAP’s similar efforts in Punjab, where temporary teachers are being made permanent.
“AAP delivers on its promises. This will be the biggest decision of its kind in Delhi’s history,” she stated.
She also took a swipe at the BJP, accusing the party of failing to fulfill its commitments.
“The BJP always finds excuses to escape its promises. Before the new chief minister was appointed, we ensured the Delhi government’s financial status was presented clearly,” she said.
Delhi’s Economic Growth Under AAP
Atishi credited AAP’s governance for Delhi’s financial progress over the years:
Year | Budget Allocation |
---|---|
2015 (AAP’s first term) | ₹30,000 crore |
2024-25 | ₹77,000 crore |
Despite receiving no financial support from the central government, she said Delhi’s economy has strengthened, with the budget growing 2.5 times in a decade.
The decision to regularize thousands of workers reinforces AAP’s focus on worker welfare and job security, setting a precedent for municipal governance across the country.
