Delhi Assembly Elections Scheduled for February 5
The Election Commission has announced that Delhi’s assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, and the results will be declared on February 8. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with senior officials, shared the election schedule during a press conference.
The 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly’s term ends on February 23, requiring the elections to be conducted before then. Delhi, known for its single-phase polls, will follow the same pattern this year.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, is striving for a third consecutive term. Meanwhile, the BJP is putting in significant efforts to unseat AAP. The Congress, contesting independently, is targeting both AAP and BJP, despite its previous alliance with AAP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Kumar highlighted the growth in India’s voter base, noting that the nation is nearing the milestone of one billion voters. He stated, “We are crossing 99 crore voters and will soon become a nation of one billion voters, marking another global record.”
He also observed that 2024 marked a significant year for global democracy, with two-thirds of the world’s population voting in various elections.
The upcoming Delhi elections are expected to be a high-stakes battle as AAP aims to retain its hold on the capital while BJP and Congress seek to challenge its dominance.
