Court to Decide Amanatullah Khan’s Bail Plea on February 25
A Delhi court will announce its decision on AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s anticipatory bail plea on February 25. He faces allegations of leading a mob attack on police and assisting an accused in escaping custody.
Special Judge Jitendra Singh had granted Khan protection from arrest until February 13 and later extended it until February 25. The judge will hear arguments from both the prosecution and defense before delivering the verdict.
Police Demand Custody, Court Seeks Clarifications
Delhi Police have requested Khan’s custody for interrogation. They claim he might have been present during the attack. They have also submitted CCTV footage and witness statements as evidence.
The judge stated that he needs more time to review the footage to assess the seriousness of the accusations. He also directed the prosecution to submit a list of pending cases against Khan before the next hearing.
Allegations Against Amanatullah Khan
Delhi Police registered an FIR against Khan on February 10. They accused him of leading a mob and assisting Shabaz Khan, a proclaimed offender, in escaping. Shabaz Khan is wanted in an attempt-to-murder case.
The alleged incident took place when the Crime Branch team tried to arrest Shabaz Khan. However, the court earlier observed that Shabaz was already on anticipatory bail since July 2018 in the case where the police wanted to arrest him.
With the court’s ruling due on February 25, all eyes are on the legal proceedings to see whether Khan secures bail or faces further action.
