Union Minister Giriraj Singh made headlines on Wednesday, proposing that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik be honored with the Bharat Ratna. Speaking to reporters, Singh praised their contributions to their respective states. “Nitish Kumar has worked tirelessly for Bihar’s development, while Naveen Patnaik has served Odisha for years. Such leaders deserve awards like the Bharat Ratna,” he said.
Singh further expressed confidence that the NDA government would form again in Bihar, with Nitish Kumar at the helm. “Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister for so many years. Today’s generation, who are in their thirties, haven’t experienced Lalu Ji’s jungle raj,” Singh added.
NDA’s 2025 Bihar Election Plans
On Tuesday, JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh also confirmed that the NDA would contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. “In the 2025 Bihar Assembly election, the NDA will contest under Nitish Kumar,” Ranjan Singh said.
The NDA coalition, which includes BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), performed well in the recent Lok Sabha polls in Bihar. Nitish Kumar had previously left the Mahagathbandhan government months before the 2024 Lok Sabha election and rejoined the BJP.
Currently, BJP is the senior partner in the NDA in Bihar, with 84 MLAs, while JD(U) holds 48 seats in the State Assembly. The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, which will involve 243 constituencies, are expected to take place at the end of the year.
