Kanpur Highway Horror: Police Investigate After Headless Body of Woman Found
In a shocking incident, police discovered a woman’s headless and naked body on a national highway in Kanpur’s Gujaini area yesterday morning. The authorities suspect that the woman may have been raped and murdered before her body was dumped on the highway. Despite 24 hours passing, no significant breakthrough has been made, and efforts to identify the victim are still ongoing.
Police Investigation: CCTV Footage Key to Clues
Authorities have been scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to help identify the woman. A CCTV camera from a hospital located across the highway captured footage of a woman with a similar build walking just hours before the body was found. In the footage, the woman is seen wearing grey trousers, and police found shreds of a grey garment near the body, further fueling the connection.
The body was first spotted at 6:15 AM, and since then, three police teams have been formed to investigate the matter. Although there were no CCTV cameras at the exact spot where the body was found, a camera located 3 km away captured a woman walking alone. The clothing seen in the footage matches the pieces of cloth and slippers found near the body.
Forensic Examination Underway
The body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. So far, no missing person report in the district matches the victim. Police are now using stills from the CCTV footage to ask local residents if they recognize the woman.
A forensic team has also collected teeth and bone samples from the scene for testing, which could further assist in identifying the victim and determining how she died.

A senior police officer stated that they are exploring whether the incident is a result of an accident or a heinous crime. Authorities are also working to determine if the woman was a local resident or if she was brought from somewhere else and dumped at the location.

The incident has caused outrage, with Akhilesh Yadav, Lok Sabha MP and chief of the Samajwadi Party, demanding strict action. He condemned the crime and urged for a thorough investigation, hoping that the ruling BJP government would rise above politics to ensure justice.
Yadav stated, “In another shocking case of crime against women, a woman’s headless, naked body was found on a highway in Kanpur. The matter should be investigated fairly, and strict punishment should be imposed to deter future incidents.”
As police continue their investigation, the community awaits answers, hoping for swift justice in this disturbing case.
