Mamata Banerjee Stays Neutral Amid INDIA Bloc Tensions
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee avoided engaging in the feud between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress. When asked about the growing discord, she simply said, “Happy New Year to all. Let this year be enjoyable for everyone.”
AAP-Congress Rift Deepens
The alliance between AAP, Congress, and Mamata’s Trinamool Congress under the INDIA bloc faces increasing strain. Disagreements began even before the federal elections, especially over seat-sharing in Delhi and Bengal. Recent friction in Haryana’s assembly election worsened the divide.
AAP criticized Congress leaders, accusing them of undermining opposition unity. AAP leader Sanjay Singh claimed, “Congress is helping BJP by attacking our leaders.” The party also demanded an apology within 24 hours from Congress leader Ajay Maken over controversial remarks against Arvind Kejriwal.
Mamata’s Leadership in Focus
Amid these conflicts, Mamata Banerjee has gained support as a potential leader of the INDIA bloc. Leaders like Sharad Pawar and Lalu Prasad Yadav have backed her candidacy. Mamata, however, remains non-committal. She expressed gratitude for the support but emphasized her priority is the bloc’s success.
“If given the opportunity, I will ensure smooth functioning,” Mamata said. She added, “I prefer staying in Bengal, but I can manage responsibilities from here if needed.”
Challenges Ahead for INDIA Bloc
Congress faces mounting challenges, both in leadership and strategy, as tensions rise within the opposition coalition. AAP’s strong stance and Mamata’s growing prominence could reshape the bloc’s dynamics ahead of crucial elections.
With the winter session of Parliament highlighting cracks in opposition unity, the INDIA bloc must act swiftly to present a united front against the BJP in upcoming electoral battles.
