Mayawati Ousts Akash Anand from BSP, Declares No Successor
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati removed her nephew Akash Anand from all party positions on Sunday. He was once seen as her political heir. The decision comes just days after she expelled his father-in-law, Ashok Sidharth, for factionalism.
Leadership Shake-up in BSP
Akash Anand served as BSP’s national coordinator. Mayawati replaced him with her brother Anand Kumar and senior leader Ramji Gautam. She also made it clear that she will not name a successor during her lifetime.
This major announcement came during the BSP’s national executive meeting in Lucknow. Several state unit presidents attended, along with senior leaders like Satish Chandra Mishra. However, Akash Anand, who lost his post, was absent.
Why Was Akash Anand Removed?
Mayawati hinted that Akash’s political career was influenced by his father-in-law, Ashok Sidharth. She suggested that Sidharth may still be guiding Akash through his daughter, Pragya, who is Akash’s wife.
This is not the first time Akash Anand has lost his position in the party. In 2024, he was sidelined after BSP’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections. However, he was reinstated a month later.
With this latest move, Mayawati has reinforced her control over BSP’s leadership. The party now focuses on strengthening its base ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections.
