A unique wedding unfolded in Jaunpur of Uttar Pradesh when a BJP leader’s son married a Pakistani girl through an online “nikah.” Tahseen Shahid, a BJP corporator, arranged the marriage of his son, Mohammad Abbas Haider, to Andleep Zahra from Lahore. Due to political tensions, Haider couldn’t secure a visa despite multiple attempts.
The situation became more complicated when the bride’s mother, Rana Yasmin Zaidi, fell ill and was admitted to the ICU in Pakistan. Given these circumstances, Shahid chose to conduct the wedding online.
On Friday night, Shahid and the “baraat” gathered at an imambara to take part in the online “nikah.” The bride’s family participated from Lahore, making the ceremony truly cross-border.
Shia leader Maulana Mahfoozul Hasan Khan explained that in Islam, the bride’s consent is crucial for a “nikah.” She communicates her agreement to the maulana, making an online ceremony possible when religious leaders from both sides are present.
Haider remains hopeful that his wife will soon receive her Indian visa without difficulty.
Several guests, including BJP MLC Brijesh Singh Prishu, attended the wedding and congratulated the groom’s family.
