Woman Reunited With Family After 49 Years in UP
In a poignant story of hope and resilience, Azamgarh police reunited a 57-year-old woman with her family nearly five decades after she went missing from a fair. The reunion was made possible through ‘Operation Muskan,’ a police initiative to trace missing persons.
Abduction at Eight
Fulmati, also known as Fula Devi, was just eight years old when she was abducted during a fair in Moradabad in 1975. According to Superintendent of Police Hemraj Meena, she was taken by an elderly man who later sold her to a resident of Rampur. Despite building a life there, she never stopped searching for her family.
The Breakthrough
The case came to light on December 19 when Dr. Pooja Rani, a school teacher from Rampur, informed Additional SP Shailendra Lal about Fulmati’s story. A police team was formed, and using her recollections of her maternal uncle Ramchander and their village, they tracked her family to Mau district.
Her uncle, Ramhit, confirmed her identity, and the police located her brother, Laldhar, in Bedpur village, Azamgarh.
Emotional Reunion
After confirming her identity, the police facilitated an emotional reunion between Fulmati and her family. The moment marked the end of 49 years of separation.
Praises for ‘Operation Muskan’
“This reunion showcases the commitment of ‘Operation Muskan’ to bring families back together,” said SP Hemraj Meena. The efforts of the police have drawn widespread praise from locals, with Fulmati and her family expressing heartfelt gratitude.
This incredible story highlights the power of perseverance and the human spirit’s ability to find closure even after decades.
