Owaisi Challenges UP Government’s Priorities
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for building a new police outpost near Jama Masjid in Sambhal. He claimed the government neglects essential facilities in Muslim-populated areas.
In a post on social media platform X, Owaisi stated, “A police post is being built in front of Jama Masjid in Sambhal. Across the country, governments neither open schools nor hospitals in Muslim areas. They only have funds for police posts and liquor bars.”
Context of the Police Outpost
The outpost construction followed unrest in Sambhal over a mosque survey investigating the possible existence of a temple. To prevent further violence, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed in the area.
Official Justifications
Sambhal ASP Shrish Chandra said the new outposts aim to enhance security and ensure better crime response. District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya announced plans to install smart meters and CCTV cameras for additional safety measures. He also mentioned ongoing anti-encroachment drives to address temporary and permanent illegal structures.
Cultural and Archaeological Developments
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) recently discovered wells and sites featuring Hindu iconography near Jama Masjid. According to the district administration, 19 wells and 68 sacred sites linked to Hindu traditions were identified. Some wells are being restored to promote water conservation.
Additionally, a Shiv-Hanuman temple in the region, closed for 46 years, was reopened as part of cultural preservation efforts.
This series of events has intensified debates about governance priorities and community concerns in Sambhal.
