Rahul Gandhi Demands Action After Railway Stampede, Pledges Support for Coolies
Rahul Gandhi has voiced serious concerns over the rising number of stampedes at railway stations. After meeting coolies who helped passengers during the February 15 tragedy, he promised to fight for their rights.
Stampede Sparks Concern
The deadly stampede at New Delhi Railway Station claimed 18 lives, including five children. Over a dozen others suffered injuries. The chaos unfolded when a massive crowd gathered at platforms 14 and 15, trying to board trains for Prayagraj, where the Maha Kumbh Mela was held.
Gandhi expressed sorrow over such incidents and stressed the need for better crowd management. He urged people to share ideas on improving security at railway stations.
Coolies Share Their Struggles
During his visit, Gandhi personally thanked the coolies for their bravery. They described the horrifying night when they risked their own lives to save trapped passengers. Despite their heroic efforts, they struggle with daily hardships.
Many porters revealed that they can barely afford one meal a day. Some have to choose between sending money home or eating themselves. Their voices remain unheard, despite their critical role in railway operations.
Rahul Gandhi’s Pledge
Gandhi promised to raise their concerns at the highest level. He criticized the neglect they face and vowed to push for better working conditions.
“These workers put their lives at risk to save others, yet they remain invisible to the system. I will fight for their rights with all my strength,” he assured.
Call for Public Participation
Gandhi urged citizens to contribute suggestions on improving crowd control and security at railway stations. He emphasized the need for collective action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
With growing concerns over railway safety, his call for action puts pressure on authorities to address these urgent issues.
