Supreme Court Judges to Meet Outside Delhi for the First Time
For the first time in Supreme Court history, 25 judges, including Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, will gather in Visakhapatnam for an official ‘full court’ meeting.
The judges will be accompanied by their families. The meeting, scheduled for January 11 and 12, aims to provide a stress-free environment for discussions on court-related matters.
Judges to Travel at Their Own Expense
This unique initiative comes from CJI Sanjiv Khanna, who proposed that judges should cover their travel costs using the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme.
“Instead of using court funds, judges decided to avail LTC,” said a source.
Under the LTC scheme, Supreme Court employees, including judges, can travel to their hometown once every two years and take an all-India trip every four years.
CJI Khanna’s Vision for a Relaxed Meeting
Sources revealed that CJI Khanna wanted the judges to meet outside Delhi to create a more relaxed and stress-free atmosphere.
He discussed the idea with senior judges BR Gavai and Surya Kant, who supported the proposal.
“This will be a family vacation with official work,” added the source.
Not All Judges Could Join
Although the Chief Justice invited all Supreme Court judges, only 25 agreed to attend.
Some judges could not participate due to personal commitments.
Focus on Balancing Work and Leisure
The trip is expected to strike a balance between work and leisure. While some judges will stay longer in Visakhapatnam, others will leave after the meeting ends.
This move highlights CJI Khanna’s efforts to ensure better work-life balance for judges while fostering camaraderie and collaboration outside the courtroom.
