The Supreme Court has allowed guided tours for the public on select Saturdays. Visitors can now explore the iconic building in New Delhi through pre-arranged escorted tours.
The tours will run every working Saturday, except on the second and fourth Saturdays and declared holidays. There will be four time slots—10 am to 11:30 am, 11:30 am to 1 pm, 2 pm to 3:30 pm, and 3:30 pm to 5 pm.
According to a circular issued by Registrar Mahesh T Patankar, these tours will require pre-online booking to ensure smooth operations.
An official told PTI that the initiative will give people a unique chance to explore the Supreme Court’s interiors. Visitors will be guided through significant parts of the building, including courtrooms, the National Judicial Museum, and the judges’ library.
The tour lasts about an hour and covers areas usually restricted to the public. The first tour took place on November 3, 2018, and since then, 296 such tours have been conducted.
The Supreme Court building, inaugurated in 1958, holds great historical significance. Its foundation stone was laid by India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in 1954.
