Massive Preparations Underway for Maha Kumbh
With less than two weeks until the Maha Kumbh festival, Uttar Pradesh has invested ₹400 crore to upgrade electricity infrastructure. This ensures uninterrupted power for over 40 crore devotees expected at the event.
The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has laid 182 kilometers of high-tension lines and 1,405 kilometers of low-tension lines. These upgrades aim to provide 24-hour electricity to all areas of the fairgrounds.
Rechargeable Bulbs to Illuminate the Grounds
The Yogi Adityanath-led government plans to light the festival grounds with over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs. Anoop Kumar Sinha, Executive Engineer for the Electricity Department, stated that these bulbs will be installed at crucial locations, including camps with 4.5 lakh electrical connections. The rechargeable bulbs, costing ₹2.7 crore, are funded through ongoing electricity projects.
Infrastructure Renovations
The Maha Kumbh will take place in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. Authorities have renovated 92 roads, constructed 30 bridges, and placed 800 multilingual signboards to guide pilgrims.
Advanced Surveillance for Safety
For the first time, underwater drones will monitor the Triveni Sangam area, providing 24/7 surveillance. Additional aerial drones will oversee the festival grounds. Around 2,700 AI-enabled CCTV cameras will ensure real-time monitoring. Facial recognition technology will also enhance security at entry points to Mahakumbh Nagar.
A Spiritual Gathering Like No Other
Maha Kumbh, regarded as the largest spiritual event globally, attracts millions of pilgrims who bathe in the sacred river to cleanse their souls. The Kumbh Mela rotates among Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik, occurring every few years at each location.
