Ajay Maken Rejects Alliance with AAP in Delhi
Ajay Maken, senior Congress leader, voiced his opposition to an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. He stated that it was his personal opinion but stressed the need for a strong Congress to counter the BJP.
At a press conference at the new Congress headquarters, Maken criticized AAP’s role in Delhi politics. He claimed that AAP’s rise had strengthened the BJP. “When Congress supported AAP in 2013, Delhi suffered, and the BJP benefited,” he said.
Maken reiterated his earlier remark about Arvind Kejriwal, calling him “anti-national.” He stated, “I still stand by my view. AAP’s prominence in Delhi has only helped the BJP.”
AAP’s Approach Weakens Opposition
Maken accused AAP of failing to challenge the BJP effectively. He added that a strong Congress was vital to counter the BJP at the national level. “Weakening Congress only helps the BJP,” he noted.
Referring to past alliances, Maken said discussions with AAP in Haryana and Delhi had failed. He claimed that after Kejriwal’s release from jail, AAP announced plans to contest independently in Haryana and Delhi.
Congress’s Role in Delhi Politics
Highlighting Congress’s past success, Maken said that under Sheila Dikshit, the party stopped the BJP in Delhi and prevented them from forming a central government. “Whosoever wins the Lok Sabha seats in Delhi often forms the government at the Centre,” he explained.
Maken criticized AAP for enabling BJP’s dominance. “Since AAP came to power, BJP has won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and formed the central government. Then, who is actually with the BJP?” he questioned.
Maken’s remarks emphasize the need for a unified Congress to tackle BJP’s growing influence.
