Fadnavis Meets Shinde Amid Maharashtra CM Post Speculations
Devendra Fadnavis, a BJP leader and top contender for Maharashtra’s Chief Minister post, met caretaker CM Eknath Shinde at his Mumbai residence. This was their first meeting since the government formation talks began.
Power-Sharing Discussions
Sources revealed that Fadnavis visited Shinde to discuss the power-sharing formula. Following Mahayuti’s victory in the Maharashtra assembly election, both leaders have been eyeing the CM’s position.
However, Shinde later pledged support to any candidate selected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shinde’s Brief Absence
Amid intense negotiations, Shinde left for Thane citing health concerns but returned to Mumbai on Tuesday. His return came just two days before the Maharashtra CM swearing-in ceremony.
Internal Speculations and Key Players
The Mahayuti alliance, which secured over 230 seats in the state election, has yet to approach Governor CP Radhakrishnan to stake claim for forming the government. Speculation of discord over the CM post continues as Fadnavis, Shinde, and Ajit Pawar remain in different cities.
Ajit Pawar, according to NCP leaders, is in Delhi to discuss political matters with Home Minister Amit Shah.
As the swearing-in approaches, suspense remains over who will lead Maharashtra’s next government.
